I am thinking about running in the mornings but do I have to eat before I run? Or do I wait til after a run? Also if I do eat before a run how long should I wait before i run? |

You should always try to eat something before you run. It is better not to have too much fat or sugars beforehand due to "stomach" issues.
Some examples would be whole grain toast and peanut butter or cheese, whole grain cereals and milk, half a bagel with cheese or PB.
If you are only going to run 30 minutes, it is not that important, but you will be out of energy for any time longer than that if you don't eat.
I usually have a low fat grilled cheese and 4oz. OJ or V8
Most runners experiment to see which foods work best for them. |

MamaCat speaks the truth. Best to avoid unpleasant energy crashes due to low blood sugar, especially if you happen to be far from home when it happens.
I like to eat a half of a whole wheat English muffin, with hazelnut/almond butter and a couple ounces of skim milk. That's carbs, protein and some good fat to keep me going. After twenty minutes, I'm ready to run. |

| I swear by oatmeal with a splash of milk and a handful of raisins. It's easy on the stomach, and gives you good energy for a long run. |

| What kind of oatmeal? I think the instant flavoured quaker stuff is easy but too sweet, apple cinnamon, raisin spice ect. I tried instant steel cut oats no flavour bleh!!! was like mush...I cant see me getting up early to make oatmeal the stove top way...what works for you guys? |

| I use Quaker brand large flake oats... cooked on the stove top, it only takes 5 mins... I think the bag says to cook for much longer, but I honestly think if you bring to a boil and simmer for 5 mins they're fine. I add a handful of raisins or maybe a sliced banana and a touch of milk, and I love it. Many people might find it a bit bland, in which case you can sprinkle some brown sugar on top, but I like it as is. |
