Hello all, I need the advice from all you serious runners. I would like to call myself a serious runner but feel the journey is not quite there.....background...I was a serious athlete at one point in my life...was drafted professionally in hockey and played at a high level.....20's were active,,profession kicked in ..police officer, got married, had kids, shift work...wait a minute ...where did my 30's go?? 40..started running seriously....now 42 ....average 30-50 km a week...and finished 2 1/2 marathons...goal below 2 hours met both times.

I have never had a serious injury ever...and now it would appear I do....Although I have not had the MRI yet...I suspect a menisci tear in my left knee. I did this playing golf of all things!! Needless to say, I have not been able to golf, or more importantly RUN for the last 6 weeks. This is killing me! I cannot put any high impact on the knee without it popping out of place (seemingly) and feeling weak. I suspect a surgeon will have to either repair the meniscus or cut the portion out that is causing the locking and pain.

Question: Anticipating a successful surgery...should I continue to run?? I must say that running has taken over in my heart as the most satisfying sport that I partake in. I dread a Doctor telling me not to continue to run. I want to know if there are others out there who have had my condition and continue to run. Will the longterm be arthritis? Am I going to be able to run without risking some serious longterm damage?

thanks for responding Billlyhank
