Fit Momma Skirt
Cindy Lynch, co-founder of Runningskirts.com, was inspired to develop the
"Fit Momma Skirt" during her own pregnancy in 2007. The skirt must have been
her lucky charm; she not only ran through her entire pregnancy, she even earned
the "Fastest Fetus" award during a 10k in Quebec City. A variation on the
original running skirt that Cindy and her twin sister, Christy, developed
three years ago, the Fit Momma is a maternity running and fitness skirt that
features a built-in belly-supporting waistband. Made of lightweight, sweat-wicking
fabric, the Fit Momma Skirt offers some extra length for the expanding girth,
and has two side pockets for toting your iPod, keys and other necessities. Ideal
for: First, second and third trimesters, as well as postpartum Price: $68

Gracie's Support Bra Ottawa native Lauren Grace Updyke's motivation to design a female-friendly running bra came when she experienced chafing from carrying her energy gels inside a regular sports bra. "I had my mother sew pockets on my sports bras so I could carry all my stuff, and then all my friends wanted the same thing," laughs Updyke.
It was the birth of a new product line - Gracie's Gear - which offers tanks,
support bras, hoodies and shorts for the active woman. Shortly after her company
launch, Lauren learned of her own pregnancy - she is now a mother to daughter
Daylin, who is 16 months old. Updyke recommends the Gracie Support Bra and
Gracie's A-Line Tank for pregnant and nursing moms, as the ultra-soft material
and lining is a treat for tender nipples. The anti-odour and sweat-wicking
feature uses an all-natural product derived from soft crab shells instead
of chemicals. "It makes a huge difference in the way you feel," says Updyke,
who stresses that her designs are comfortable yet flattering, to camouflage
those new-mommy curves. Both products can be worn as a bra or a tank top.
Even better, 50 per cent of online sales from black tops with pink piping
will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Ideal for: Pre-pregnancy,
pregnancy and postpartum Pricing: $33 (US) for the Gracie's Support Bra, featuring
the POWER POUCH™ for carrying workout essentials; $39 for Gracie's A-Line
Tank. Order online at graciesgearandtraining.com or visit retail locations

The Chariot Carrier Designed and manufactured in Calgary, the Chariot Carrier has long been considered the Cadillac of baby carriers. The company - which is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary - developed the Child Transport System (CTS), to provide customers with the ultimate in versatility. Every Chariot model is sold as a "chassis" only - the basic carrier unit - which is then adapted to the customer's needs using any one of five CTS conversion kits: walking; running; cycling; hiking; or cross-country skiing.
Ideal for: Getting back into physical activity postpartum. Chariot advises that you can start using the carrier for strolling with a newborn provided you have the Baby Bivy ($60) installed, or at one month using the Infant Sling ($70). Running with your child will depend on their own development and the terrain, but it is recommended that the infant be at least six months old.
Pricing: Chariot's X-Country CTS Adventure Carrier Series offers seven different products, with a wide price range: $400 for the Cheetah1, Chariot's entry-level, one-child carrier (an additional charge applies for the CTS conversion kit(s) of your choice); $725 for the CX1, Chariot's ultra-deluxe, one-child carrier carrier (an additional charge applies for the CTS conversion kit(s) of your choice).
